Testimonials

Claire Eckersley has been giving my brother speech therapy since 2017.  My brother (now in 2021 aged 80) lost much of his ability to speak following a stroke in 2016.  Claire has been brilliant for him.  She is extremely professional, skilled, and knowledgeable.  She is also flexible and adaptable and has tailored my brother’s treatment to his needs but also to his personality.  With her help and encouragement he has made progress and has also absorbed strategies from her to deal with his frustration at his condition.  Claire is imaginative and has great empathy.  Her focus and energy are remarkable as is her knowledge of appropriate technology.  I unreservedly recommend her – I am sure she would find a way to help anyone with speech problems.

My name is J.S., and I have recently been within the care of Claire Eckersley. Claire has just been the best professional Speech and Language therapist who I was so very lucky to have found, while feeling very desperate within myself. I could not speak after having an extremely bad time with laryngitis and my vocal chords had been damaged. I could not speak and so I took it upon myself to seek a Speech and Language therapist, as the alternative was incomprehensible. I can honestly say that Claire was a life saver. Not only was she extremely welcoming and very positive, Claire made me feel that there was light at the end of the tunnel. The exercises and re training of my vocal chords was amazing, and after only a short time, I was able to use my voice again. I can not state enough how Claire helped me regain my confidence and hope, with the ability of speech again. I would recommend Claire to anyone who needs any kind of help within her professional capacity. Thank you Claire.

Claire worked with my daughter over a number of sessions to smooth out her speech. She was warm, reassuring and patient and together they explored a range of techniques for her to practice and draw on when necessary.  I would (and indeed have!) recommend her to anyone who is looking for help with their stammering. Claire has recently been working with my 11 year old son who had developed a stutter, and had always struggled pronouncing the “w” and “r” sounds. She saw him once a week for 6 weeks, initially for an assessment, then talked to him about the reasons and science behind why he stutters, and then gave him some techniques to use to help him overcome this, which they practiced together.  She also showed him how to correctly pronounce the sounds he was struggling with. We started to see an improvement after a couple of sessions – and towards the end others started commenting on how his speech had improved. Claire was friendly, flexible and professional throughout, and immediately made my son feel very comfortable so he was very happy going to the sessions – he could also appreciate how much she was helping him. I would therefore highly recommend Cornwall Speech Therapy  – thank you so much Claire for helping us!
